JOB DUTIES. The following duties will be performed in this position:
• Teach painting (including acrylic, watercolor, oil pastels, sketching, colored pencils, and craft courses) to children aged 5-12.
• Teach using a systematic plan of lessons, demonstrations, discussion groups, and independent and group projects.
• Develop curriculum and prepare teaching materials and outlines for courses.
• Prepare, administer, and mark projects, papers, and tests to evaluate students’ progress.
• Provide individualized tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
• Supervise independent or group projects.
• Supervise teaching assistants.
• Serve on committees concerned with matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course requirements.
REQUIREMENTS. The successful applicant will possess, at a minimum, the following skills and experience:
• A bachelor’s degree, a college diploma, or demonstrated expertise in the field of visual art.
• At least 18 months of experience as a children’s art teacher.
• Proficient at creating PowerPoint presentations and designing teaching materials based on curriculum requirements.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong creative thinking skills and demonstrated use of creative teaching techniques.
• Outgoing, lively, and skilled at engaging children in a classroom atmosphere, with clear teaching logic and strong classroom management skills.
• Highly adaptable and skilled at handling unexpected situations.
• Passionate about art and aesthetic appreciation.
• Patience, compassion, and approachability are preferred.
